Busy Bees on the Phone in the States

All of a sudden, telemarketers in the States are calling my consulting firm there—and calling, and calling. More of those calls have come in during the past couple of weeks than in all the rest of this year.

I have the phone forwarded to the UK while most of my business is over here. The callers don’t know that, so they don’t realize they are calling late at night my time, or very early in the morning. Night before last someone called at 2:40 in the morning. (Needless to say, they didn’t get to talk with me.) But even in their time zone, it must have been long after normal business hours.

UK businesses are not doing the same to my UK firm. The calls are at about the usual volume, and in about the usual proportion (mostly trying to sell to me as a consumer, not a business owner).

My consulting mostly involves or revolves around IT. Nobody in their right mind expects a lot of new IT projects to start at this time of year. Besides, in general, people are preoccupied with the holiday season. I’ve never before gotten anything resembling this wave of sales calls in this season on either side of the Atlantic.

I’m not sure what this means, but it must mean something!

If I figure it out, I will post about it. In the meantime, I welcome suggestions about what the answer might be.
