USA Sides with Russia Against Ukraine at United Nations

To mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the USA sided with Russia on votes in the UN General Assembly and in the UN Security Council.

A resolution put forward by Europe in the General Assembly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The USA voted against it alongside Russia, Israelm North Korea, Belarus and 14 other countries aligned with Russia. The resolution passed.

In the Security Council, the USA put forward and voted for a resolution calling for an end to the conflict without any criticism of Russia for invading a sovereign neighbor.

Although this resolution passed, key USA allies UK and France attempted to amend the wording and abstained after amendments were vetoed.
