Univ. of Michigan Closes Flagship Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program

| 0

The University of Michigan capitulated to Donald Trump by closing down its flagship diversity, equity and inclusion program.

The program began in 2016 and had become an example for other universities across the nation. The university’s office for health equity and inclusion is also closing. The successful “DEI 2.0 strategic plan” is discontinued. All of this follows a decision last year that faculty hiring, tenure or promotion no longer requires diversity statements.

In email about these changes, university leadership cited Trump’s executive orders against diversity, equity and inclusion. They also cited threats to cut off federal funding if the university does not satisfy Trump’s demands to do away with diversity, equity and inclusion.
