Trump Sentenced to Unconditional Release

| 0

Sentencing occurred in the New York election interference case (often misleadingly called the hush money case) in which a jury unanimously found Trump guilty of 34 felonies for covering up payments to an adult film actress to keep her quiet about their sexual encounter before the 2016 presidential election. It is almost unheard-of for a felon convicted of such charges to escape punishment.Judge Juan Merchan said imposing punishment would encroach on Trump’s impending presidency. His sentence was unconditional discharge; he released Trump without restrictions.

Trump raged about this as not fair to him. Legal analyst Joyce White Vance explained Trump wanted to avoid being sentenced, even with no punishment, because a month after sentencing his designation as a convicted felon will become permanent.

Conviction complicates Trump’s upcoming Presidency. Some other countries prohibit convicted felons from entering their borders.
