Southern California Wildfires Begin

| 0

On 7 January 2025, a series of catastrophic wildfires began in southern California, generally in and around the Los Angeles area.

Vegetation to fuel the fires grew tremendously after torrential rains, then dried in the drought that followed it. Los Angeles only received 0.16 inches of rain from May 2024 to the end of the year. Low humidity and Santa Ana winds of up to 100 mph completed ideal conditions for disastrous fires. Although the danger was forecasted well in advance, once started, the fires were impossible to stop. Widespread evacuation orders and large-scale loss of property began.
