Social Security Payments Suspended for Some Americans Abroad

| 0

The Social Security Administration has suspended benefit payments to some Americans abroad, effective as of the start of February 2025.

SSA says this does not affect Americans living abroad who are below age 90, receive their own benefits (distinct from survivor benefits) and have a Social Security Number ending in 50 to 99. Other Americans abroad were not paid February 2025 and must submit a Foreign Enforcement Questionnaire (colloquially called a “proof of life” form) and contact the Federal Benefits Unit for the country they are in to restart benefit payments. Those unaffected this year must submit the form in June to July 2025.
