The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was dismantled over the weekend, and Elon Musk’s DOGE team got access to its IT systems which contain data useful to his businesses.
Its funding is completely removed. Its headquarters are closed. All its consumer protection all activities are stopped. Musk’s team connected external data drives to IT systems, enabling them to take outside the agency data about enforcement actions, competitors to Musk’s ventures such as a payment app he is developing jointly with Visa, and trade secrets of companies overseen by CFPB.
