Signal will Leave Sweden Rather than Grant Access to Encrypted Messages

| 0

The encrypted messaging app Signal announced it will leave Sweden if the country insists upon access to its message content.

Sweden wants encrypted messaging services to capture and save in  plain text all secure messages, which authorities may later subpoena. The European Union, United Kingdom, France and some other countries are also considering whether to demand access in readable form to encrypted messages in secure messaging services. Some want access through a back door in the services.

Secure messaging services have been protesting against such measures. Earlier this month, Apple withdrew its encrypted service from the UK market when UK government insisted on access. The UK backed off.

Signal is widely regarded as a premier secure messaging service.
