Iowa Removes Civil Rights Protections for Gender Identity

Republican legislators in Iowa voted to remove gender identity from the protections of the Iowa Civil Rights Act, effective 1 July 2025.

This makes Iowa the first state to remove civil rights protections for a class of people.
