Russia Damages Chernobyl Containment

A Russian drone with a high-explosive payload hit the Chernobyl nuclear facility’s containment structure, blowing a hole in it and igniting a brief fire.

Radiation levels in the vicinity have not increased. The nuclear power plant suffered a disaster in mid-1986 which released nuclear fallout over most of the northern hemisphere. It is closed, but breaching its containment shell could cause a new radioactive release.
