National Cancer Institute Fires 330 Employees

Donald Trump and Elon Musk purged 330 probationary employees from the National Cancer Institute, just under 10% of its workforce.

This was part of a larger purge across the Department of Health and Human Services.

Probationary workers at NCI have been in their jobs less than a year. They have less employment protection than employees who have been in their jobs longer. Their access to buildings and systems was cut off by the end of the day.

NCI is the world’s largest funding source for cancer research. It supervises a large amount of cancer-related research and clinical trial activity in the USA.
