Rubio Halts Foreign Student Visa Application Appointments

| 0

Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered USA embassies to stop scheduling visa application appointments for foreigners who want to study in the USA.

Rubio plans closer scrutiny, beyond the enhanced scrutiny already put in place, of social media posts by applicants for student and foreign exchange visas. Applying for such visas usually requires an appointment at and processing by an embassy. Delving deeply into personal expression on social media will be a substantial new portion of the process. It is not clear exactly what criteria will be applied.

Embassies have been ordered to block any unfilled appointments for student visa interviews “until further guidance is issued.” Interviews already scheduled are due to carry on.
