After a phone call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Donald Trump announced suspension of his planned 50% tariffs against the European Union until 9 July 2025, the date through which he agreed to negotiate in April the last time he imposed and then halved tariffs against the EU.

Trump previously announced three rounds of tariffs against the EU:

  • 25% on imports of steel, aluminum and cars
  • 20% “reciprocal” tariff on all imports, paused during negotiations
  • “universal” baseline 10% tariff which remains in place

The EU promises to impose tariffs against imports from the USA in response to tariffs levied by the USA.
