Rep. Jamie Raskin Asks DOJ to Investigate Interim U.S. Attorney Ed Martin

| 0

Congressional Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, asked the Justice Department of Justice to investigate Interim U.S. Attorney Ed Martin.

Raskin’s request to the DOJ’s Inspector general cited a laundry list of Martin’s actions that raise concerns over abuse of his position, including but not limited to:

  • using his interim position to dismiss a case against a client for whom he was still the defense attorney of record
  • pressuring prosecutor Denise Cheung to resign because she refused to freeze funds and initiate a grand jury inquiry against a grant program with no evidence of wrongdoing
  • launching Operation Whirlwind
  • sending ominous letters to Democratic lawmakers for a variety of reasons, such as because some criticized Elon Musk

The list is nine pages long, single spaced. Martin has been in his role less than two months. He has been nominated to become the Senate-confirmed U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
