NIH Plans to Create National Registry of Autistic People

| 0

National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya announced that a new national disease registry will be created for autism “requested by the president of the United States to Secretary [Robert F.] Kennedy [Jr.]”

Bhattacharya said data for the registry will be acquired from federal and private sources such as electronic health records, pharmacy data, and wearable fitness trackers.

The initiative to list and monitor autistic people was widely attributed to RFK Jr., Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, who believes autism is caused by environmental exposures such as vaccines. He also believes autistic people cannot live productive or fulfilling lives. His beliefs have been soundly debunked.

Public outcry against the registry began immediately, primarily on two counts: violation of privacy and the registry’s resemblance to lists made in Nazi Germany of people with health conditions, some of whom were then targeted for elimination.
