New National Monuments Designated

By authority established in the 1906 Antiquities Act to protect areas of “scientific, cultural, ecological, and historic importance,” President Joe Biden designated the Chuckwalla National Monument and the Sáttítla Highlands National Monument. These two natural areas are now under federal protection. They cover 848,000 acres (about 3,430 square kilometers) in southern California’s Eastern Coachella Valley.
