National Security Adviser Waltz Seen Using Signal-Like Messaging During Meeting

National Security Adviser Mike Waltz was photographed using Signal or a similar app to exchange message on his phone during a Cabinet meeting.

In March he inadvertently added journalist Jeffrey Goldstein to a Signal chat in which Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth posted sensitive details of an upcoming military strike against Houthis in Yemen, and then celebrated the strike as it occurred.

Signal is not supposed to be used for any sensitive government communications. Records of official government messages are legally required to be archived, but Waltz marked messages in the March chat to automatically delete after a period of time.
