Musk’s DOGE Quietly Removes Its Top 5 Purported Savings from Website

After multiple media reports of large errors, Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, which is a subset of a White House IT team rather than a department, quietly deleted from view on its website the top five “savings” it claimed to have made.

DOGE’s so-called online “wall of receipts” showed about 20% of the $55 billion it claimed to have saved through its slash-and-burn firings of personnel, terminations of contracts and blocking of payments. Of those, the largest claim of $8 billion was for terminating a contract worth $8 million. DOGE counted one USAID contract three times. DOGE claimed to save $232 million by canceling a contract for the Social Security Administration, but the actual reduction in cost was $560,000. More than a quarter of contracts DOGE claimed to cut were already paid for.
