Mike Flynn Drops $150 million Libel Lawsuit Against Fred Wellman
Former Army general and fired former National Security Advisor Mike Flynn abruptly dropped his $150 million libel lawsuit against Fred Wellman.
The suit was over three tweets posted by Wellman almost two years before the lawsuit was filed, just before expiration of the statute of limitations. Two of the tweets were readily set aside. The third was about Flynn being paid by Russia’s Vladimir Putin and hinged upon an assertion that the word “is” caused $150M in harm to Flynn, whereas the word “was” would not have.
The lawsuit may fall into the category of a SLAPP (Strategic Legal Action Against Public Participation), as it cost the defendant considerable time and expense but rested on questionable merits.
