Judge Temporarily Blocks DJT Passport Policy Regarding Gender

| 0

Federal District Court Judge Julia E. Kobick ordered a temporary pause to Donald Trump’s executive order which removed from passports the ability of transgender people to change the gender signifier and non-binary people to choose the X signifier.

Her order applies only to the six plaintiffs in the case before her. It does not apply to anyone else.

Kobick found that a group of transgender and non-binary people who filed a lawsuit against the policy in February were likely to prevail in their case.

The passport policy change arose from an executive order that declared the USA recognizes only two sexes, male and female, determined at birth. Kobick called this “part of a coordinated and rapid rollback of rights and protections previously afforded to transgender Americans, suggesting that these challenged actions are built on a foundation of irrational prejudice toward fellow citizens.”
