DOGE Took Over Central Website for Federal Grant Applications

Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” has in recent weeks taken over grants.gov, a central website for providing information about and taking applications for federal grants.

DOGE is a subset of a White House IT team, not a government department. Nothing on the grants.gov website mentions its takeover of the site.

The site says it “provides a centralized location for grant seekers to find and apply for federal funding opportunities. Today, the Grants.gov system houses information on over 1,000 grant programs,” amounting to more than $500 billion per year.

Users reported intermittent problems accessing the website 6 February 2025 which cleared up that day.

According to the Washington Post, which broke the story, DOGE cut off “many federal officials’” from being able to post notifications grants. DOGE did not inform them that it had taken away their permission to do so. WaPo reported that DOGE aims to take all grant announcement capability for itself.

Website managers were told to send grant notices to grantreview@hhs.gov, which DOGE monitors.
