| 0

Federal District Court Judge Jesse M. Furman, who is an observant Jew, ordered that “To preserve the Court’s jurisdiction pending a ruling on the petition, Petitioner [Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil] shall not be removed from the United States unless and until the Court orders otherwise.”

Hundreds of people have been protesting Khalil’s detention as a violation of First Amendment rights to freedom of speech. Khalil graduated from Columbia University in December with a master’s degree. He is a permanent resident with a green card, which is supposed to be revocable only for significant crimes. He has no criminal history. He is married to a USA citizen who is eight months pregnant.
