Judge Orders Halt to Firings and Data Tampering at CFPB

Federal District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson ordered that for the time being, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau must not fire any more of its employees or delete, destroy, remove or impair CFPB data.

Jackson also stipulated that CFPB can transfer money from its reserve funds only for operational reasons.

More than 100 CFPB workers who had been in their jobs up to four years were fired this week. Acting Director Russell Vought also stopped all work and closed CFPB headquarters.

The agency’s former chief technologist warned that data was going to be deleted, and DOGE staff were seen in the building.

Jackson’s order came about after the National Treasury Employees Union sued to defend the workers and data. Jackson scheduled a hearing for 3 March.
