Judge Blocks Funding Freeze for Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty

Federal District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth issued a temporary restraining order against Kari Lake and the government to block a funding freeze for Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty.

Lake is in charge of the U.S. Agency for Global Media. Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty are two of its broadcasting outlets. Lambert said cutting off the organization’s federal funding would violate a  Congressional mandate.

The radio outlets were created by and are funded by Congress to provide reliable news to people in countries where anti-democratic forces make it difficult to get trustworthy news. Sister outlets Voice of America and Radio Free Asia, which share the same mission and operate under the same agency, have also been defunded by Donald Trump’s regime at Lake’s hands but operate in different geographical areas. The lawsuit being heard by Lamberth was brought only by RFE/RL.

Lamberth ordered disbursement of funding that was being held back.
