Jeff Bezos Decrees Slant of Washington Post Opinion Pages

Jeff Bezos, owner of the Washington Post, directed the newspaper’s opinion pieces must promote “personal liberties and free markets” and viewpoints to the contrary will “be left to be published by others.” This aligns the newspaper’s opinion section with Donald Trump.

Opinions Editor David Shipley will leave. It is not clear whether he chose to resign or was fired for disagreeing with Bezos’ decree. He was among those most vocally opposed when Bezos blocked publication of an endorsement for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, Donald Trump’s opponent, shortly before last year’s Presidential election.
