ICE Sends 10 More Men to Prison in El Salvador

| 0

Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted on X to announce that Immigration and Customs Enforcement sent 10 more men to the notorious CECOT prison in El Salvador late Saturday night.

They were not limited to Venezuelans accused of affiliation with the Tren de Aragua gang and expelled using the Alien Enemies Act. Some were accused of affiliation with the MS-13 gang.

Although the government claims most of the men it has sent there are criminals, an investigation by the 60 Minutes weekly television program found that 75% have no criminal record.

It was not clear whether ICE complied with the Supreme Court’s ruling that each person renditioned must have an opportunity to file a habeas corpus petition to challenge their detention. So far the government refuses to comply with orders by a District Court and the Supreme Court to retrieve Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully sent to CECOT. The government refuses even to comply with required status update reporting to the District Court.
