Hegseth Ex-SIL Delivers Negative Affidavit to Senators

Danielle Hegseth, former sister-in-law of Peter Hegseth who is nominated to be Secretary of Defense, delivered a sworn statement of allegations to Senators after the FBI omitted the information from their pre-confirmation report.

She provided the affidavit to respond to a letter from Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., seeking “personal knowledge about Mr. Hegseth’s fitness to occupy this important position.”

Her affidavit said it is her “personal opinion that Hegseth is unfit for the position of secretary of defense.” She said he was so abusive to his ex-wife that she was afraid for her safety. She also said he abused alcohol, often passing out intoxicated at both family events and public events. She described incidents of disorderly conduct while in uniform in public.

She told all of this to the FBI when interviewed for Hegseth’s background check in December. She came forward with it separately because it was omitted from the FBI report to Senate leadership.
