DJT Fires Entire Aviation Security Advisory Committee, Heads of TSA & Coast Guard

| 0

Donald Trump fired all members of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee, as well as the heads of the Transportation Security Administration and Coast Guard.

This dramatically alters the Department of Homeland Security.

Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Linda Fagan has been the first female service chief in the armed forces. Under her leadership, the Coast Guard in 2024 exceeded its recruitment goals for the first time since 2017. She has been especially dedicated to counteracting adversaries in Arctic waters and striving to correct a longstanding culture of sexual assault within the Coast Guard and its service academy.

Like Fagan, TSA Administrator David Pekoske was fired partway through the term of his job. Pekoske was originally appointed by Trump during his first term.

The ASAC was created by Congress after the 1988 bombing of PanAm 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. Advisory Committees are created or eliminated by Congress, not the President. Officially the ASAC will continue to exist, but with all of its members removed, it will be an empty shell unable to do any work.
