Florida Announces Phase-Out of Vaccination Requirements

Governor Ron DeSantis and state Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo announced Florida will eliminate all of the state’s mandates for childhood vaccinations.

It has long been standard practice across the USA to require children to be immunized against several diseases that were once common, sometimes debilitating and sometimes deadly. Such diseases include polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, chickenpox, diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus.

Lapado lambasted vaccine mandates as an “immoral” intrusion on individual rights akin to “slavery.” He said, “People have a right to make their own decisions, informed decisions. They don’t have the right to tell you what to put in your body. Take it away from them.”

Public health experts were quick to condemn his stance. Most were polite about it but some bluntly called ending vaccine mandates reckless, dangerous and even stupid.

Some of the vaccine mandates can be stopped by the state’s Health Department, but others can only be stopped by the state legislature.
