By large margins, Democrats won both special election contests for state legislative seats in western Orange County.

For State Senate District 15, State Representative LaVon Bracy Davis (D-Apopka) won more than 72% of the vote to replace Geraldine Thompson, who died in February 2025.

To fill the Florida House District 40 seat vacated by Davis, her former Chief of Staff RaShon Young won 75% of the vote to trounce Republican opponent Tuan Lee.

Turnout was very light at 8.9%.

Davis said the first bill she will file is the Florida Voting Rights Act previously advocated by Thompson. ”It will undo some of the horrific voting laws that we’ve seen here in the state of Florida. Senator Thompson and I have filed this together for the last two years, and I’m going to file it again in her honor, and I’ll continue to file it until it’s passed.”
