Federal Judge Extends Ban on DOGE Access to Various Treasury IT Systems

| 0

Federal District Court Judge Jeannette Vargas extended her order barring Elon Musk’s DOGE from access to Treasury Department payment records, systems or other repositories containing personal or financial information.

Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency is a subset of a White House IT team, not an actual government department.

The state Attorneys General who are plaintiffs wanted DOGE to also be prohibited from “developing automated (or even manual) processes to halt payments coming through Treasury Department payment systems.” Vargas denied that request to expand her temporary restraining order, but extended the existing order.

She cited a “rushed” DOGE effort to get into the Bureau of Fiscal Services payment systems. Those contain names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, birth places, home addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and bank account information of people with whom the federal government has any history of transactions. She described DOGE as “chaotic and haphazard.”
