FDA Rescinds Firings of a Few Dozen Scientists

| 0

The Food and Drug Administration scrambled to rescind its firing of a few dozen scientists among its 3500 job cuts.

The firings hit about 20% of FDA’s workforce, including scientists and food inspectors. As a result, FDA suspended such programs as milk quality testing, food safety testing and testing for bird flu in farm animals and farm products that are in the food chain.

The agency’s role in drug approvals and medical device reviews also took a hit.

It is not clear how many of the firings will be reversed. The mass firings were driven by Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency,” a subset of a White House IT team rather than a government department.
