FDA Commissioner Repeatedly Lies that No Scientists or Food Inspectors Were Fired

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary was called out by major news media for repeatedly lying in public interviews, falsely insisting that no scientists or food inspectors were fired from the agency.

In reality, at some FDA laboratories nearly all the scientists received “reduction in force” notices putting them on leave until their 2 June 2025 termination date. The notices said their “duties have been identified as either unnecessary or virtually identical to duties being performed elsewhere in the agency.”

At one location, a lab only a few years old is being shut down. Some new equipment will never be used. Food safety testing, milk quality testing and tests to detect bird flu in farm stock are suspended or deeply cut back.
