DOJ Fires Lawyer Who Answered Judge Honestly in Kilmar Abrego Garcia Case

The Department of Justice fired attorney Erez Reuveni, who answered District Court Judge Paula Xinis honestly about being unable to get information about Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia before having to represent the government’s case against him.

The government says it sent Abrego Garcia to CECOT prison in El Salvador by mistake, despite knowing he was in the USA legally and despite being aware of a 2019 order by an immigration judge that if he was ever deported, it must not be to his native El Salvador.

In court, Reuveni admitted, “Our only arguments are jurisdictional. … He should not have been sent to El Salvador.” When Xinis asked why the USA could not simply ask to get him back, Reuveni replied, “The first thing I did when I got this case on my desk is ask my clients the same question.”

Reuveni was put on administrative leave shortly after that day in court. Attorney General Pam Bondi explained her decision to do this in a statement saying, “At my direction, every Department of Justice attorney is required to zealously advocate on behalf of the United States. Any attorney who fails to abide by this direction will face consequences.” In other words, he was expected to say anything that would advance the regime’s agenda and nothing that would impede it.

Now his 15 year career as a DOJ attorney is over because he told a judge the truth.
