DJT Renames Gulf of Mexico and Mount Denali
Donald Trump signed an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico and Mount Denali. This order will not affect how the rest of the world refers to either natural feature. Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” and renamed Alaska’s Mount Denali as Mount McKinley. The latter had been officially named Denali by former president Barack Obama in 2015 in honor of indigenous Alaskans and the preferences of many Alaskans.
The order has no impact on what names are used internationally.
