DJT Punishes USAID Security for Trying to Protect Classified Material from Unauthorized Access by Musk Team

Donald Trump put on leave two top security personnel, John Vorhees and deputy Brian McGill, at US Agency for International Development after they attempted, unsuccessfully, to block an Elon Musk team of DOGE from accessing classified information above their security clearance level.

According to insiders, an Elon Musk staffer falsely invoked the authority of the U.S. Marshall service to intimidate USAID security personnel into granting access to classified information and restricted areas.

After news of the incident appeared on X, Elon Musk responded there with a post saying, “USAID is a criminal organization. Time for it to die.”

Wired reported that the Musk team members who got into classified material are Akash Bobba, Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger, and Ethan Shaotran. They are young, in one instance still in college, and have little or no experience in government.

USAID is widely esteemed as an international aid and development agency providing such services as nutritional support for extremely malnourished children. On 27 January 2025, Trump dismissed 56 of its senior officials. Its website disappeared 1 February 2025.

Heather Cox Richardson noted in her Letters from an American: “USAID receives foreign policy guidance from the State Department. Intelligence agencies must now assume U.S. intelligence systems are insecure.”
