DJT Abridges Birthright Citizenship in Defiance of 14th Amendment

Donald Trump issued an executive order to deny birthright citizenship to some people who are born in the USA, in direct contravention of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.

The order refuses birthright citizenship to any person born in the USA whose “mother was unlawfully present in the United States and the father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth”, or “when that person’s mother’s presence in the United States at the time of said person’s birth was lawful but temporary.” The order also attempts to reject documents recognizing citizenship for anyone who meets its rejection criteria and is born 30 days or more after 20 January 2025 when the order was signed.

This executive order is certain to be challenged in court.
