DJT Falsely Declares Emergency to Increase Lumber Cutting on Public Land

| 0

Donald Trump signed two executive orders to increase domestic lumber production on USA public land while bypassing endangered species protections and other environmental regulations.

Declaring a national energy emergency gives Trump powers to completey override such regulations. The USA is the world’s largest producer of oil and gas. It is not in an energy emergency.

Under Trump’s declaration, federal agencies use emergency powers in existing environmental laws to fast-track energy projects. As an example, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has emergency consultation procedures to expedite reviews or temporary waivers during declared emergencies. Trump is using these provisions to accelerate projects without the standard, comprehensive environmental assessments normally required.
