NSF Reinstates Many But Not All Fired Probationary Workers
In the wake of federal District Court Judge William Alsup’s ruling that OPM’s mass firings of federal workers were illegal, National Science Foundation Director Sethuraman Panchanathan “ordered the immediate reinstatement of terminated probationers with backpay and no break in service[….]”
NSF was initially included in Alsup’s ruling. On Friday, the ruling was amended to remove NSF.
Although experts on short term contracts are not reinstated, 84 of the 86 fired NSF probationary employees are being reinstated. Last week, NSF began to reinstate fired probationary employees who are military veterans, military spouses or people with disabilities. That, too, was driven by OPM.
