Costco Shareholders Vote Overwhelmingly for DEI

| 0

About 98% of Costco shareholders voted in favor of the company’s existing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, defying a trend of other large companies dropping or curtailing such programs.

The proxy proposal shareholders rejected came from the National Center for Public Policy Research after NCPPR unsuccessfully tried to get the board of directors to step back from DEI. Although the proposal looked innocent on the surface, the board saw it as an attempt to undermine practices that are not only lawful but essential to the company’s success.

Amazon, Walmart, McDonald’s, Lowe’s, Tractor Supply and Target are among large retailers that have scaled back or dropped their DEI initiatives to line up with the new regime’s hostility toward diversity, equity and inclusion.
