Hegseth Confirmed as Secretary of Defense

With a tie-breaking vote by VP J.D. Vance, Peter Hegseth was confirmed by the Senate as Secretary of Defense.

The tie came about when Senators Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Lisa Murkowsky (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME) joined Democrats to vote against confirmation.

Hegseth is still dogged by allegations of sexual assault and public drunkenness, a sworn affidavit that he was abusive to his ex-wife, poor financial mismanagement at two veterans’ groups and lack of executive experience beyond small organizations that fared badly under his lead.
