Chief Justice Condemns DJT Push to Impeach Judges Who Rule Against Him

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts issued a rare statement defending judges whose rulings go against Donald Trump’s wishes after Trump called for impeachment of such judges.

Roberts’ statement did not mention Trump by name, but it was clear that his remarks were aimed at Trump. His statement came within a few hours after Trump and his allies raged against District Court Judge James Boesberg, who is interfering with Trump’s desire to use wartime powers to deport Venezuelans to an El Salvador prison without due process or any idea whether they will ever be released. Trump called for Boesberg to be impeached.

Roberts wrote the Supreme Court’s ruling in Donald Trump v. United States which gave the President immunity from prosecution for crimes committed as part of official duties. That decision terminated precedent throughout USA history and gives Trump free rein to do whatever he wants.

Congressional Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX) responded to Trump by introducing Articles of Impeachment against Judge Boesberg in the House. Elon Musk promptly promoted it on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The bill quickly gained five Congressional sponsors: Eli Crane (R-AZ), Buddy Carter (R-GA), Mike Collins, (R-GA), Barry Moore (R-AL) and Andrew Clyde (R-GA).

Roberts statement included, “For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.”
