Chicago School Refuses Entry to Agents Believed to be ICE

| 0

In line with Chicago Public Schools policy, Hamline Elementary School refused entry to agents the staff believed were immigration agents.

This occurred on a day when immigration agents were raiding locations such as workplaces and hospitals across the country, especially in designated sanctuary areas. Arrests and detentions took not only immigrants, but also citizens, including at least one citizen who was a military veteran. Chicago had previously been named publicly by federal officials as a primary target city for the raids.

By the following day, the school realized the agents were Secret Service rather than ICE and apologized for the misunderstanding. The Secret Service said the agents were “investigating a threat to one of our protectees in reference to the recent TikTok ban.” They left without entering.
