CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon Announces Resignation

CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon announced she is resigning because  “it’s become clear that the company and I do not agree on the path forward.”

Like 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens who resigned last month, McMahon opposes settling the $20 million lawsuit Donald Trump is pursuing in which he claims a 60 Minutes interview with former Vice President and Presidential candidate Kamala Harris was edited to be more favorable for her.

Although CBS News says any editing of the interview was only standard, CBS is owned by Paramount Global which wants government approval of a proposed merger with Skydance Media. Paramount’s ontrolling shareholder Shari Redstone wants to settle the lawsuit with Trump so he will not block approval of the merger.

Redstone is also dissatisfied with some CBS coverage of Israel’s war in the Gaza strip, including some 60 Minutes coverage. Paramount has begun to oversee that show in more intrusive ways, which contributed to Owens’ resignation and could be an unspoken factor in McMahon’s.
