Democrats won both Delaware state Senate seats that were up for grabs in a special election.

The seats represent District 1 and District 5, replacing Congressional Representative Sarah McBride and Lt. Governor Kyle Evans Gay who stepped out of the state Senate when they took their new offices.

Dan Cruce, chief operating officer of United Way of Delaware, won by a landslide in District 1.

Ray Seigfried, former senior vice president of Christiana Care and a one-term state representative, won decisively in District 5.
