Ghosts aren’t the only things that haunt. Past actions do too. Everybody makes mistakes, and those mistakes haunt us. But I would rather work with people who try to do well than with those who intentionally do not. Wouldn’t you?

Out of this awful catastrophe, I suspect the Japanese will give the world something priceless–a model for disaster response that moves the entire field forward by giant strides and saves a lot of lives in a future disaster somewhere else.
All of a sudden, telemarketers in the States are calling my consulting firm there–and calling, and calling. More of those calls have come in during the past couple of weeks than in all the rest of this year. I’m not sure what this means, but it must mean something!
Keeping unintended consequences from being whoppers can be the very thing that keeps your business alive–especially in times like these.
Unintended consequences can be the hardest kind to live with. We all cause consequences we didn’t intend. Sometimes they are bad. Sometimes they are good–I do now live abroad, which I wanted to do someday, and it is every bit as much of a growth experience as I hoped it might be. But we owe it to ourselves and everyone around us to think about what we caused. When we cause something bad that we didn’t mean to do, we should learn from it and try not to do it again.

To paraphrase a great advertising campaign, a wide world is a terrible thing to miss. Go find out more about some corner of the world other than your own. Don’t take someone else’s word for it–not even mine. There’s no substitute for experience. Add to yours.
Universal coverage for health care is not the same thing as socialized medicine. Anyone who tells you the USA’s health care reform is socialized medicine is incorrect. Don’t let such misstatements trick you into voting badly next month.
