Default Outlook Can Lose a Sale

Would you like to lose a big prospect because you were too careless or lazy to make sure you are sending readable emails? If you wouldn’t, then read this!

If you use Microsoft Outlook as your email client and do not change the default settings, it likes to send a lot of stuff as an attachment in a proprietary file format. Although it’s possible to convert that to a more standard format, it’s a hassle at best and non-technical people have no clue how to do it.

Not everyone uses Outlook. For example, if you want to deal with GSK and you send one of those Outlook attachments, they won’t be able to open it.

I don’t use Outlook either. It is a hacker magnet. My clients expect me not to expose them to unnecessary IT risks, so they expect me to avoid using something that could expose my address book to a zero-day attack.

I highly recommend that if you are using Outlook, you should change your settings so that all your email and attachments will go out in industry-standard formats. Sending email to a prospect or a client in a format they can’t read is a great way to throw sand in the works of a business relationship.

Would you like to lose a prospect the size of GSK because you were too lazy to make sure you’re sending readable email? I didn’t think so!
