Zelenskyy Stays Away from Diplomatic Ambush in London

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy chose not to attend a negotiation session hosted in London about reaching a peace deal with Russia, sensing another ambush similar to the one by Donald Trump and J.D. Vance in the White House.

After learning Zelenskyy would not personally attend, Secretary of State Marco Rubio called off the session. He and Trump’s primary negotiator Steve Witkoff stayed in Washington, D.C. France and Germany, who planned to attend to defend Ukrainian and European interests, also stayed home instead of attending as planned. Instead, UK Foreign Secretary Dave Lammy met with Ukraine Foreign Minister Andrii Ivanovych Sybiha.

Vice President J.D. Vance, who was visiting India, reiterated Trump’s current threat that if Ukraine and Russia do not accept the USA’s proposed deal for at least a ceasefire in the next few days, it will be time “for the US to walk away from this process.”

Had the session been held, the USA would have demanded that Ukraine must allow Russia to keep Crimea which it took in 2014 and the eastern portion of Ukraine which is hotly contested now. Ukraine would have also been told it must never join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Ukraine’s constitution does not allow giving up any of its territory, and also includes joining NATO as an objective. Zelenskyy is constitutionally prohibited from accepting the terms being dictated by the USA and Russia.

Moscow reportedly has gathered 70,000 troops near Ukraine’s northern border, apparently staging another push to take more territory.

The BBC closed its article about all of this by saying, “Kyiv’s forces are bracing for that–keeping the Ukrainian president safe at home, where he’s only got drones, missiles and Russian assassins to fear.”
