USAID PEPFAR Program Still Halted

Despite Donald Trump’s claim to have unfrozen PEPFAR for HIV treatment, it is among several USAID foreign aid programs still unable to access funds and resume operations.

President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief provides treatment to HIV positive patients around the world. When treatment for HIV is interrupted, the virus rapidly begins to develop resistance to drugs. That puts the world at risk of a fresh epidemic of AIDS as a fatal disease unresponsive to treatment.

Trump has simultaneously announced withdrawal of the USA from the World Health Organization and has imposed near-total gags on federal health agencies.
