USAID Inspector General Paul Martin released a report criticizing Donald Trump’s extreme downsizing of the agency, citing calamitous effects.

The report specifically discussed abrupt cutoff of lifesaving support which left “more than $489 million of food assistance at ports, in transit, and in warehouses at risk of spoilage, unanticipated storage needs, and diversion.”

The report also said drastic reduction of staffing hamstrings the agency’s oversight capabilities, which can make USAID “susceptible to inadvertently funding entities or salaries of individuals associated with U.S.-designated terrorist organizations.”
